We applaud Rachel Heywood, Councillor for Coldharbour, who is speaking out for the many people in her ward who badly need the Carnegie Library, now needlessly closed. Her ‘breaking ranks’ letter spells out how out of touch the council has become – on libraries and on a whole list of other issues.
This takes real courage in Lambeth, where the Labour majority ruthlessly cracks down on any hint of dissent. We know a number of Councillors are as uneasy as Rachel is – but are afraid to speak out.
Who will be first to follow her example?
